Writing Task-1

On a recent holiday you lost a valuable item. Fortunately, you have travel insurance to cover the cost of anything lost.

Write a letter to the manager of your insurance company. In your letter

  • describe the item you lost
  • explain how you lost it
  • tell the insurance company what you would like them to do

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to you to claim the insurance coverage for my lost laptop. Unfortunately, I lost the laptop model Dell-5 on July 24, 2018 while I was travelling to Delhi, India. As my travel insurance covers the loss of this item, I would really appreciate your cooperation on claiming my insurance.

I arrived in Delhi on July 20, 2018 and returned to Bangladesh on July 27, 2018. I took the aforesaid model laptop with me to Delhi that I purchased from Transcom Electronic just one month ago. It had been with me till July 23, 2018 but the next day while I was visiting the Kutub Minar, an old historic fort of Delhi, at a time, I realized that the laptop was missing. I am not sure whether the laptop was stolen or I just forgot it somewhere in Delhi. I visited the local police station and explained what had happened. They told us that they would not be able to do anything because I could not be sure whether this was stolen or lost.

Since my laptop is insured, I would like to claim my insurance money. I request you to compensate me for the full amount of the laptop. I am sending a photocopy of the money-receipt of the lost laptop with this letter.

Yours faithfully,

Faisal Ahmed

Writing Task-2

Some people think that the teenage years are the happiest times of most people’s lives. Others think that adult life brings more happiness, in spite of greater responsibilities.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Teenage stage of a person’s life knows no bounds and brings pure delights while adulthood offers freedom, a sense of fulfillment and achievement. In this way, a group of people consider that adolescence is the happiest part of life though others argue that adulthood is more enjoyable. Both teenage and grown-up time can be unique and full of blessings for certain people. But in my view, the mature stage of a person’s life is more fulfilling.

To begin with, most teenagers have no responsibility and most of the time their parents look after them and fulfill all their requirements. Thus they can easily put aside the difficulties of life and enjoy things they are passionate about. In general, youngsters have fresh minds, fewer complexities and lots of dreams for later life. Life is yet to expose its challenges to these young minds and they find contentment (happiness) in whatever they do.

On the contrary, adulthood is a phase (stage) when we have a better understanding of life, economic and decision-making freedom, matured thinking and a sense of achievement. There is no doubt that adult people have more responsibilities but such responsibilities bring multiple achievements for them. Thus life opens many windows of opportunity and relationship to an adult that a youngster cannot imagine. To give an example, I felt tremendous happiness in my adulthood when I got my first well-paid job and drew my first lucrative salary. That sweet moment reminded me that adulthood made me self-reliant and solvent.

To conclude, every stage of our life has its own set of comfort and some people look back to the past and feel happier while others are just joyful in their adulthood. For me, my adulthood is more satisfying and exalting.
